Niagra Falls as a banner
After the wedding Sandra and I drove to Buffalo to visit with a friend with whom I have been playing bridge online almost daily for maybe 20 years.
Picture of Claire with us.And here she is!  Claire was a perfect hostess.  She wanted us to see the best supermarket in the country so she took us to Wegman's for lunch.  It was a grocery with an excellent restaurant included.  Her opinion of it was correct.  It has now spread and they have opened two of them in the Raleigh area and are real close to opening one two miles from us.  She and I played a "live" game of bridge at her local club.  Sandra and I went across the border to Niagra falls and on our return Claire fed us a wonderful dinner of chicken alfredo and a glass or two of Irving's homemade wind.  All of it was excellent.  We still play bridge often, but our schedules have changed, actually, we have no schedules anymore, so it's a bit harder to find each other on Bridge Base Online.
Our drive west from Scarsdale to Buffalo took us just north of the finger lakes.  I knew that NYC didn't cover the entire state, but I was surprised by how rual most of the state is.  Countryside NY
After lunch we visited the falls.  They are much more dramatic from the Canadian side.  There are actually two sets of waterfalls.  This is horseshoe falls which is on the Canadian side of the border. Horseshoe falls
And this is American falls.  If you noticed on the bulletin cover, this is April 26 and the "ice" is still present.  At one time the ice formation on the left reached to the top of the falls and people would climb it.  For a video of the falls click the YouTube Icon

park along the river Alongside the river on the Canadian side was this park area with several overlooks from which you could take pictures.
The view of the falls from the states side was much less dramatic.

U. S. side of the falls
From the state side you get an idea of the volume of water that flows over the falls.  It has the higest volume of any waterfall in North America.  This is the Niagra river flowing from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario.

Villiage of Niagra on the Lake Claire had told us to also visit Niagra on the Lake, a quaint villiage on the shore of Lake Ontario.  We purchased some special peach preserves and smuggled them across the border to Claire, and kept a jar for ourselves.
On the way home we drove by lake Erie.  The staff at the diner where we had lunch said it had really been cleaned up.  Makes me wonder what it was like before and if they contined the clean up process. Lake Erie
New River bridge The trip home also took us close enough to the New River bridge that we took a side trip.  This is the second highest single span brige in the country and every October they hold "Bridge Day."  People come from all over to BASE jump (jump off with parachutes) and repel down it.  It's quite a celebration.  Click the YouTube logo to see a video of the bridge.
