We left St. Louis about 10:00 AM heading toward Illinois
and Kentucky to Cookeville, Tennessee to spend the
night. We got off the interstate when we saw a
sign for the largest statue of Superman and the Superman
Museum in Metropolis, Illinois. I took John's
picture with the big Superman statue on Superman Square.
The streets around it were named, "Truth" and "Justice"
and "The American Way."
Sandra had to go into the museum
which was only an overpriced gift shop and she purchased
two pieces of Kryptonite that glowed in the dark.
On the way to Cookeville we crossed the Ohio river into
Kentucky, then the Tennessee river and the Cumberland
river. We saw barges on the Ohio and Tennessee
rivers.
Going
through Nashville we saw a building that looked like
Batman and trucked on to Cookeville to spend the night.
Thursday,
Oct. 23:
We drove from Cookeville to Knoxville and had lunch with
Jewel and Craig. John and Craig played nine holes
of golf while Jewel and I talked.
Then
we drove across the beautiful Smoky Mountains with fall
colors to Asheville to have supper with Clifton, then
home to Statesville.
The trip was 26 days and 7,250
miles and we enjoyed every bit of it but next time we
fly.
