How in the world could one be an hour's ride from New York City and not visit?

You can't!
Commuter train leaving tarrytown station
So we hopped on board the communter train to the city and rode along the Hudson river's shore taking in the views across the river.  Not real glamorous, by the way.
We landed at Grand Central Station, both of us had been there before but it was a long time ago, and we had forgotten how big it is.

(btw, when we were there before there were no cell phones.  Look at the people texting, taking pics, and talking on their phones.)

Times Square When we got outside, we were just blocks away from times square.
When we looked down Fifth Avenue we spied the iconic "Art Deco" Chrysler Building.  We never saw the Empire State Building, although I'm sure we were fairly close to it.  Click on the YouTube logo to see a video of New York City street scenes and if you look closely at the Jumbo Tron, you might see Sandra and me.  I'm to her left hiding behind the movie camera.

Central Park We turned right and walked a few blocks to Central Park.  Click on the YouTube logo for a short video of scenes from the park.

We walked across the width of Central Park taking pictures and ended back on Fifth Avenue at the F. A. O. Schwarz toy store.

(The store has moved and the company has been bought and sold several times since our visit.)

We were greeted by one of their toy soldiers who must have recognized us as tourist (no telling how) and asked if he could pose with the beautiful lady accompanying me.  Schwarz greeter and Sandra
Life size lego storm trooper Of all the toys in the store, the ones which most intriqued us were the lego creation.  At the time our grandson was into legos and was building cities and space ships and all sorts of things.  The storm trooper was life size and the lego people were about four feet tall. It seems we walked around for miles and as supper time approached we asked a policeman where a good Italian restaurant was and he recommended Carmine's and gave us directions.  On the way we saw the Public Library and not ever having seen one so large before we decided to give it a tour. front of the public library
When you stepped inside the first thing you saw was what appeared to be indescript lettering on the floor, but when you looked up . . . lettering on the floor
you saw the mirrow image of the lettering on the floor. Mirrow image saying "I am in the public eye."
When we were there there was a special display of famous photographs.  Photographing them was not allowed.  The only one I remember was the famous picture of the migrant dust bowl mother.  I took this one off the web. famous photo of the migrant dust bown mother.
Then it was on to Carmine's where we were seated in a much larger room than shown here and ordered our meal.  The waiter told us to order only one  entree, because it was served family style and there would be plenty for both of us.  When it arrived the couple seated at the table next to us said they had thought about asking us to join them, for there was more than enough food for four on both tables and then we could have tried another dish.  It was excellent.  Then it was back to the hotel in Tarrytown.
