As we approached the Bonneville Salt Flats we observed several
"mining" operations. |
It's
hard to imagine the size of the flats from pictures, this was
taken from a platform about 30 feet high at a rest area across
the highway from the flats. They are about an hour and a
half drive from the city.
I learned that every year there is enough rain to "refresh" the
flats, clean them and smooth them out. |

On the way back, we saw an exit for the Salt Lake itself and
when we got there noticed this unusual Islamic looking
structure. We went inside and discovered it was a concert
hall/dance hall that is being "revived."
This is the third structure. |

This is a model of the original Saltair, a resort center, family
oriented, operated by the mormons, who later sold it because of
objections to the selling of caffeinated drinks and alcohol.
It was destroyed by fire. The second one was also
destroyed by fire, believed to be arson. |

This is the Salt Lake, the "beach" at Saltair III. I
wanted to show the salt being left behind as the lake
evaporates. It is a beautiful blue lake, by the way.
And that's it for our trip to Yellowstone, et. al. |
