What I am calling the East Loop is more of a scenic route than one of geysers and paint pots.

It is a rectangular roadway which goes east from Old Faithful to Yellowstone Lake.

It is surprising that there was no ice on it this early in the spring.  This is a natural lake, no dams retard the water.

The route then heads north to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

It was named that before the Grand Canyon in Arizona was established as a national park.

A picture of the canyon showing both falls.

There are two "falls" in the canyon, the upper falls which are in full view and the lower falls which you can catch just a glimpse of the head of them.

This was an unexpected pleasure as I did not realize there was a canyon this large in Yellowstone.

This route is well worth the trip for the scenery and fresh air.  It is along this route that most of the camping is done.

At the Canyon there is a road to the west, which we had to take since the northern most road on the loop was closed due to snow.  That is where most of the sightings of Grizzly bear and wolves occur.  There were some people along the route we took waiting with camera's on tripods hoping something would come out of the woods.

This is all of Yellowstone, to continue, click on the Grand Titons tab below.
